These are last year’s, but next year’s will be almost identical with the dates shifted one day earlier.

Guides written by Navajo County families

A local 4-H family wrote two long, honest guides based on their first years at our fair. They are worth every minute.

Two tips from those guides that everyone should know:

Tip: The Arizona Pork Council has offered a grant for first-time pig exhibitors (about $450 in recent years). Ask the club leader or the swine superintendent how to apply.

Tip: Register your 4-H member at Cal Ranch and ask about the 4-H project discount on feed and supplies.

Learning to show

  • YouTube is full of good showmanship videos. Search β€œmarket lamb showmanship tips,” β€œhow to drive a show pig,” β€œsetting up a market goat,” or β€œshow steer showmanship.” Watch a few different coaches.
  • SAILA shows, jackpots, and the Holbrook livestock camp are the best practice. Ask the club leader which are coming up; one is required before the fair.

Record books and demonstrations

  • Record books in the Handbook
  • Demonstrations in the Handbook
  • ZSuite has a Help link in the top corner with step-by-step articles and videos for record books.

Spot something wrong or out of date? Tell the club leader so the Handbook can be updated.
